Animatic: Update

I have sent off the music to Rachael who shall edit it in to our animatic. I am very excited for this project to be completed.

It is finally done and I am so proud of what our group has accomplished! It is a very endearing animatic, with a sweet story and great art. I am proud of what we have created.

Presenting our Animatic

We presented our animatic today, which I will link below.

The critique we got back was that, it was obvious that different people had taken on different roles, something that we should work on in a project. We didn’t have any sound so we were advised to add that at a later date as well.

I think that we did very well for our first time working together as a group, ut alos for our first time producing an animatic. However, i do agree with and take on board what was said, there could be many improvements. Such as the suggested change of length for some scenes and the added sound.

Ruxandra left our group and we gained the expertise of Rachael. I am now in charge of background music, Rachael is in charge of sound effects, Veronika is fixing up the speed of some frames and Glenn is fixing up some background pieces he felt could be improved.

Digital Art: Back

Today I completed the back side of the Mini to be used in a couple of shots and also drew the side of the monstrous Big. I found the Mini to be easier to draw, whilst the Big was a challenge, particularly due to its fiery core. However, I am taking all this as good practice.

I sent these final layers to Veronika who shall edit the animatic together.

Digital Art

Today I began working on the Minis for our Animatic.

The colours and designs were done sing the previous team’s designs and colour palettes.

I first drew the sketch, and then using different layers I began lining and colouring my work. I focused on each section individually on different layers so Veronika could animate the Mini with ease. I created a small colour palette beside my Mini so that I could get the correct colours. The view for today’s Mini was the front view.

For being one of my first attempts at digital art I believe that I did fairly well.

Final Storyboards and assigning roles.

Today we met in order to finalise our story board and assign roles to each person.

We decided on a final story board which entailed the Mini running across the bridge to try and woo a Big who had appeared to be the same size when she viewed him from across the bridge. However, her dreams were quickly shattered when a big slams his foot down in front of her. In a daze, she is lifted face to face to him, where she woos him with a flower and a gentle kiss.

We decided that each person would have a role to fulfil in order to prevent the work load for just one person building up. Glenn would do backgrounds, Ruxandra chose to do the Big, Veronika was the only person with animating experience so she took on the role of animating everything and I decided on drawing the Mini.

I am excited for this project, however I am also nervous as I have never done digital art before.

Discussing story

Today we met to discuss story ideas and came up with two story ideas that we could pursue.

Story 1:

A Mini sees a big from across the bridge connecting their scales, however the perspective leads them to believe that the Big is the same size as them. So they rush over the bridge, dreaming of a romantic encounter only to be greeted by the stare of a stony giant. Lifted up to eye level they do not back down and kiss the giant.

Story 2:

The Mini and the Big have a previously established relationship. The Big sneaks the Mini into his house, however another Big, seeking his affection, knocks on the door and the Mini has to keep herself from being seen.

Both of these ideas were inspired by Nuala‘s beautiful art.

Nuala’s art

We decided to go home and storyboard our favourite story.

Switching Groups and Animatics

Unfortunately I was sick for today’s presentation on colour, however I was told by my, now former, group that it went well and our work was well received. You can read the full account on either Glenn, Rose or Carla‘s blogs. However, I am well aware that I need to work on colour more in my spare time, as I did not nearly do as much as I feel I needed to.

I was informed that I had been moved to a new group, Scale World, with Glenn, Ruxandra and Veronika. The premise of this world is that it is a set of scales, and each habitat on either side balances the other. There are three main life forms Minis, Midis and Bigs. The Minis are small, creative, energetic creatures. Made from porcelain they are fragile and need to be treated with care, however their romantic outlook on life often gets them into sticky situations. The Bigs on the other hand are no nonsense giants, made out of stone, their industrial outlook on life often leaves them appearing to be intimidating unsociable. The final life form are the outcasts of this world, existing on the the world between the scales, the Midis are the product of a Mini and Big falling in love. They are logical yet creative, fragile yet sturdy, but because they are impure they are not accepted by either society. You can view artwork by the previous group on Nuala, Bradley, Molly or Erinn‘s blogs.

Because I was not present today, we discussed our favourite animatics over Facebook and discussed our favourite artwork by the previous group, finally deciding to meet tomorrow in order to discuss the story that our animatic would show.
